Martin Luther King Jr.'s statue in Boston draws online mockery. I'll admit that the statutes' aesthetics was much more appreciative when I viewed an online 360° rendition of the two arms of Coretta and Martin intertwine in an embrace, but many people disagree with my assessment. I'd like to hear your opinion in this informal poll of thoughts. Please feel free to post your honest opinion.
Poll - Reaction to MLK Statue
LOVED IT.
LIKED IT.
HATED IT.
Frankly, I do not recall seeing a sculpture of the Kings together. Is there one? Coretta was by Martin's side at every turn. Would be good to see their love for each other in bronze showing their joyful faces and loving embrace in a more recognizable fashion, like in the pic the statue is designed from.
I marveled at the skill of the sculptor and was drawn to the precision in every detail of the hands. Clearly, he is very talented. I do feel that he missed the mark to a degree with his interpretation of an iconic pic that captured the Kings shared love and joy. Art is subjective after all and I foresee that in time, many will grasp the meaning behind this piece of art and accept its embrace. Pun intended. I had mixed feelings about the sculpture at first glance. I plan to travel to Boston Commons to see it for myself. 😶
I don't necessarily think it's bad, it was hard to determine what it was based on some of the pictures that I saw. I respect the artist's interpretation. However, I feel with so many statues of white people that include their faces, Martin and Coretta's face should have been shown to stand for all time. Just my opinion.
